What a zirconia crown costs in Karachi, per tooth.
The short answer

What you are paying for
No metal under it
Zirconia is monolithic, so there is no overlaying material that can break off, which is what happens more often with metal and porcelain crowns.
Tuned to the tooth
Zirconia comes in a variety of opacities and strengths: more translucent and aesthetic for front teeth, higher strength for molars and back teeth.
Strong enough for grinders
It can be used in people who grind their teeth. In the past only metal crowns could be.
CAD/CAM made
Made by a CAD/CAM process, so there is minimal human intervention in manufacture.
Five days, or two
Turnaround is five days to a week, or two working days for urgent cases.
Common questions
Questions people ask about this treatment.
01How long will my crown last?
The average life of a crown is ten years. However, if done correctly, crowns last twenty years and beyond.
02Will there be a black line like my last crown?
There will be no black line near the gum. That problem was associated with metal and porcelain crowns, which have a layer of metal beneath the porcelain that shows through.
03What is a zirconia crown?
A crown milled from a single solid block of zirconia. Nine in ten crowns fitted at this clinic are zirconia. Because it is one piece with nothing layered on top, there is no overlying material to chip off, which is what happens with metal-and-porcelain crowns.
04How is a zirconia crown made?
By a CAD/CAM process: the design is computer-led with minimal human intervention, and the crown is milled from a solid block of zirconia by robotic arms. That is what makes the fit so precise.
05How many visits does a crown take?
Two. At the first the tooth is prepared and an impression is taken and sent to the laboratory. Turnaround is normally five days to a week; urgent cases take two working days. At the second visit the crown is fitted after the bite and the technical details are checked.
06Can zirconia crowns be used on front teeth?
Yes, and that is part of why they are used almost exclusively here. Zirconia comes in a range of opacities and strengths, more translucent and more aesthetic for front teeth, stronger grades for molars and back teeth. It can even be used for people who grind their teeth, which used to mean a metal crown and no longer does.
