Toothache in Karachi

A toothache that will not settle? Start with an examination and an X-ray.

The short answer

The first step for a toothache is an examination and an X-ray, so the cause is known before anything is done. Examination, X-ray and diagnosis are PKR 3,500, and you decide afterwards. If the cause is an infected tooth, a root canal is PKR 48,000 and keeps your own tooth. If a tooth that has already had a root canal hurts, re-treatment is PKR 55,000.

Prices are given in writing before treatment begins. Rates are reviewed each year.

What to expect

The cause comes first

The plan is made after history, an examination of the mouth and the investigations the case calls for. A diagnosis is established, and the plan is presented to you before treatment starts.

If a root canal tooth hurts again

Four things patients notice with a failed root canal: pain on biting, swelling, pus discharge, and sudden severe pain.

Saving the tooth

A root canal keeps your own tooth, and at 95 to 100% success over ten years and beyond it usually keeps it in function indefinitely. Extraction is the right answer when a tooth genuinely cannot be saved.

Bring what you have

Bring any current dental X-ray, 3D scan and medical report with you. Book enough time with the receptionist if you want treatment at the same visit.

Common questions

Questions people ask about this.

01What are the signs of a failed root canal?

Four things patients notice: pain on biting, swelling, pus discharge, and sudden severe pain.

02Can a failed root canal be saved?

Usually, yes, on two conditions. There has to be enough tooth structure left, and the full length of every root canal has to be reachable. The second matters most. The main cause of a failed root canal is the first dentist not filling the canal to its full length, and they may have blocked it in a way that means it cannot be reopened all the way.

03How is a failed root canal diagnosed?

By understanding what went wrong first. That means a full history, an examination of the mouth, and investigations, small X-rays, and where the case needs it a CBCT scan, which is like a mini CT scan of the mouth. Only once all of that is in front of us is a plan made and put to the patient.
