Choosing an implant dentist
How to choose an implant dentist in Karachi, in five questions.
An implant is planned work, not a quick procedure. These are the questions worth putting to any clinic, with the answers Dr Arshad’s Dental Care has published.
Prices are given in writing before treatment begins. Rates are reviewed each year.
The five questions
Will my case be planned from a 3D scan?
The scan shows the quantity and quality of the bone. Without it, the plan is a guess.
At Dr Arshad’s Dental Care
Yes: a full history, an oral and X-ray examination, blood reports, and a 3D scan of the jaw. Then a surgical guide is fabricated.
Will anything be placed at the first visit?
An implant placed on the day of the consultation has not been planned.
At Dr Arshad’s Dental Care
No. An implant is never placed blindly at the initial consultation. It is placed according to where the future tooth will be, rather than where the bone is.
Which implant systems do you use, and how many have you placed?
Established systems have long track records. Ask for numbers, and for how long they have been followed.
At Dr Arshad’s Dental Care
Several of the leading systems, across more than twenty years and over a thousand procedures, with 95% success at ten years and beyond.
What is the full price, in writing, crown and graft included?
An implant price can leave out the crown or a bone graft. Ask what is and is not in the figure.
At Dr Arshad’s Dental Care
An implant with a PFM crown is PKR 170,000, with a zirconia crown PKR 230,000. Bone grafting, where the scan shows it is needed, is PKR 70,000. Prices are given in writing before treatment begins, and instalments can be arranged.
What is the timeline, and what care do I get after?
An implant needs months, not days, and the first days after surgery matter.
At Dr Arshad’s Dental Care
Follow-up at one week, at one month, and a second-stage impression at three months. The crown is fitted a week to ten days later. The first 72 hours are managed with an intramuscular combination of painkillers to reduce pain and swelling.
